Description

Tbilisi Academic Theater named after K. Marjanishvili: Treasure of Georgian Theater History

The Tbilisi Academic Theater named after K. Marjanishvili is a majestic building that keeps a rich heritage and creative spirit. This state theater, located in Tbilisi, Georgia, is considered one of the oldest and most significant cultural centers in the country, second only to the Rustaveli National Theatre.

The history of this theater goes back to 1928, when it was founded by Kote Marjanishvili in Kutaisi. In 1930, the theater moved to Tbilisi and settled in the historic building of the former charitable "Public House" built by the Zubalashvili brothers. This building, stylized in Art Nouveau, with careful repairs was restored to life and in 2006 opened to the audience with the premiere of "The Threepenny Opera" by Bertolt Brecht.

The architectural splendor of this theater building was erected under the direction of the Polish architect Stefan Krychinsky, and the construction was carried out by another outstanding architect of the time - Alexander Rogozhsky, the municipal architect of Tbilisi. This building has become not only a place for theatrical performances, but also a monument of architectural heritage, which proudly adorns the streets of Tbilisi.

The Tbilisi Academic Theater named after K. Marjanishvili continues to inspire with its creative atmosphere, rich performances and an important role in the cultural life of Georgia. This theater embodies the art, history and beauty that are inextricably linked to this beautiful country.
