The Samson Chanba Abkhaz State Drama Theatre, located in the heart of Sukhum, is the leading drama theatre in Abkhazia.
The theatre, with a rich history dating back to 1912, features unique Stalinist Empire architecture that combines elements of Art Nouveau and Soviet classicism. The theatre's auditorium seats 700 spectators and is equipped with a Russian-language radio translation system, making it accessible to a wide audience. The building's façade is decorated with sculptural portraits of prominent figures in Georgian theatre art, and the theatre square is decorated with a fountain with mythical griffins.
Under the direction of chief director Zaur Kove, the theatre continues to delight spectators with productions that receive a wide public response.
