Tbilisi Theater of Music and Drama named after Vaso Abashidze ო თეატრი) is a unique cultural institution located in the heart of Tbilisi. Founded in 1934 by prominent figures Mikheil Chiaureli and David Dzneladze, the theater quickly gained popularity thanks to its original repertoire and the high professionalism of the troupe. Initially functioning as the Georgian Theater of Musical Comedy named after V. Abashidze, it became the successor to the traveling musical and drama theater "Cooptheater", which existed since 1926.
In 2005, the theater received its current name and continued to develop under the leadership of artistic director David Teimurazovich Doiashvili. Together with composer Nika Memarnishvili, Doiashvili realized such significant productions as “Marlene Dietrich”, “Partition” based on the play by Eristavi, “City under siege” based on the work of Camus, "Waste Paper" E. Radzinsky, “Wedding on a bill of exchange” G. Puccini and "Mary Poppins". These performances became real events in the cultural life of the city and attracted the attention of both local residents and guests of the capital.
The theater troupe is regularly replenished with talented young actors, including Nanka Kalatozishvili, David Beshitaishvili and Buba Gogorishvili. Their skill and enthusiasm bring freshness and originality to the productions, making each performance unforgettable.
