Sergey Vasilyevich Makovetsky is an outstanding Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, born on June 13, 1958 in Kyiv. His mother worked at the Vulcan artificial leather factory, and his father left the family before his birth. From a young age, Sergei was fond of sports, doing figure skating and water polo. However, his theatrical future was predetermined by chance: his English teacher Tatyana Solovkina invited him to play the role of Arkashka Schastlivtsev in the play "The Forest" by Alexander Ostrovsky. This experience inspired Makovetsky to pursue an acting career.

After an unsuccessful attempt to enter the Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts named after I. K. Karpenko-Kary, Sergei worked as a scenery fitter for a year. However, he did not give up and a year later entered the Higher Theatre School named after B. V. Shchukin, after which he was enrolled in the troupe of the State Academic Theatre named after E. B. Vakhtangov.
